Leaving Mass Early

Dear Sr. Edwina: When we go to Mass, is it okay if we leave right after Communion? Sometimes it’s hard to fit Mass into our schedule and we need to leave early.

Concerned Catholic: Oh my! Sr. Edwina is not happy with such a question as this one. Is it too much for Christ to ask for one full hour of your time when He himself, is the author of time? Going to Mass and spending time with ones brothers and sisters in Christ is a privilege we should not take lightly. Perhaps I should ask if you would also consider sneaking out of a friend’s house after a delicious meal without bothering to say goodbye. Mass is a communal celebration from beginning to end, let us remember our manners and always be gracious in the presence of our host, Jesus Christ.
