Parking Lot Manners

Dear Sr. Edwina: Can you offer some comments on parking lot etiquette for Catholics before and after Mass?

Concerned Catholic: A one word answer would be: Charity! But of course, Sr. Edwina has never given a one word answer for anything, so allow her, dear believers, to expound a bit. Leaving the handicapped spaces for those who need them is obvious. But what about those who of you who are young and able-bodied? Would it not be charitable for you to pass up the choicest parking spots, leaving them for the elderly and those with small children? Sr. Edwina would like to also mention to those of you with competitive spirits, that there is no prize that she knows of, for beating the Priest down the isle and into the parking lot after communion. A one word response for that practice dear Christians would be, “rude”. Please, slow down, and be aware of the needs of others. Respect our Priest and the members of the Body of Christ. After all, Mass is first and foremost a communal celebration.
